(files nails...)

Now, for someone who was just last summer called ugly words by the editor of Style in an email that cc'd other staffers (because I asserted that a ReTweet with no contradictory commentary implies endorsement of that content you are then spreading to followers), I have to say I found it ironic that that same editor who sent me those ugly emails (and had no professional repercussions for it) was the same person who, in this article, released the statement saying,
"disparaging language 'violated the core values we hold sacred...' ".

Read the reporter's email and the PR firm's take on it:
http://www.goldmanandassociates.com/2010/02/reporters-obscene-e-mail-reveals-societys-prejudice-against-the-disabled/comment-page-1/#comment-238

Sooooo... let's look at the issue.
The PR firm pitching to the Style Weekly reporter sells their client as a BLIND motivational speaker.

YET takes offense when the reporter refers to the client as blind in his email, after weeks of the PR firm bugging the reporter about what they refer to as their BLIND motivational speaker client....?

Curious:
So it's ok to be called a blind motivational speaker but not ok to be called a blind jerk?
What do you think?

I think the reporter's publication let him be the fall guy.
Nice.

In the meantime... ponder this:

Thanks for listening…

<img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.copelandcasati.com/uploaded_images/copeland-logo-IPIX-cap-757429.png" style="cursor: pointer;

Why Google Buzz Isn't Buzzworthy: (GREAT article) http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/article.php/3864381/Why-Google-Buzz-Isnt-Buzzworthy.htm

Excuse the language, but this blog exemplifies what Google did not consider: An abused ex-wife's legitimate case and reaction on why this is so wrong.

Shortly after: "Google tweaks Buzz social hub after privacy woes" http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_16036/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=5Dpkfd68

Is Google Microsoft? http://m.guardian.co.uk/?id=102202&story=http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2010/feb/14/google-gmail-buzz-john-naughton

And, just in case: How to Do Everything in Google Buzz (Including Turn It Off) http://j.mp/cxNjiA

I was interested in the Winter Olympics as a case study regarding its use of new media:

Here's a list of all US Olympic athletes on Twitter: http://bit.ly/9J2baa

Foursquare continues to gain ground, and big media recognizes its value: The New York Times and Foursquare Partner for the Olympics http://bit.ly/cXPPah Embracing the "Hey Look At Me" on Buzz? Well, here's a good point to consider for all you public braggarts: http://pleaserobme.com/why

FACEBOOK FAN PAGES: Has one of your employees set up your facebook Fan Page? Here's what you need to know: http://thewebissocial.com/?p=628

Ok, there are enough early-adopter Richmonders on now, so let's talk about Foursquare. From here's two that came to mind:

How, through communication via cell phones, apps, and online access, people were even saved.

Also noted: Twitter's human touch amid the horror of Haiti

An anonymous person began posting Dwell satire:
Unhappy Hipsters
Why did this make me giggle? Because I have always railed against the aloof supa-too-cool-for-you attitude that emanates from so much architecture / media entities. I have always embraced an honest, "laugh at yourself tone while educating others" approach, obviously evidenced at @greenmodernkits / @copelandcasati... if you intimidate people, how are they going to feel comfortable asking you questions?

iPad... yeah, we know, we know...

On our own web agency in Richmond, Virginia front, we were honored to be asked to comment on social media in Richmond Grid...

<a href="http://www.copelandcasati.com/uploaded_images/social-media-grid-772566.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; I have assured them that while general pointers, links to article overviews are helpful, really, they just need to start experiencing it while remembering that if they maintain basic business poise and acumen, they'll be all right.

“DON’T WORRY IF YOU DON’T KNOW ‘ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING’ BEFORE STARTING OUT.”
Really. Stuck at home? (Um not that I ever am. No. Really.) UStream.com allows you to view, participate in events no matter where you're located. Richmond's Social Media Club used it for their focus on social media in film and music! Watching from afar (dag), the user experience seemed much better than the trials and errors I encountered with TwitCam. I will definitely be testing out UStream the next time I... leave and do something, *anything* interesting. (Not that those cams were interesting. One was of a rocking chair. Niiiiiiiice. #NeedsALife...)

Still intimidated by Google Wave?
This two minute video breaks it down to the big picture:

I understand this is confusing, new territory. But it's always good to question, keep an eye out for new issues on the horizon- you never know when what you think is perpetual will be shaken. See it as liberating, be curious. In business it is good to review data, and look at unconsidered opportunity.

For all the data and facts and passionate strategy... keep yer heart, listen to your intuition... backed up, of course, with good decision-making facts. (Wonder what The Naked Portfolio Manager would say on this?)

Thanks for listening…

I'm Copeland Casati, of Copeland Casati Media,
the original C3 in Richmond creative arts and media since 1999.

You can reach me at copeland@copelandcasati.com, or on twitter, @copelandcasati. Phishers and Search Engine Fights and Security! Richmond's C3 Takes It On, At Copeland Casati Media.

It's a pain to take the time to research, then track down Google's proper area in each specific instance to report bad sites to Google, but discovering a malware or phishing site and not doing so is worse. So after (again) reporting a phishing site I discovered that mimics twitter making user's profiles show up in Google Web Alerts, so that you *think* you are clicking onto twitter to see that person's profile (at which point they ask you to "log in" therefore getting your password...), I chuckled when I got Google's "thank you for submitting" message:

Report Sent

Thanks for sending a report to Google. Now that you've done your good deed for the day, feel free to:
1. Take a second to rejoice merrily for doing your part in making the web a safer place.
2. Call/email/write to a neighbor/friend/relative and tell them what phishing is and how they can protect themselves.
3. Learn more about malware that can infect your computer on Stopbadware.org.

Ayyyyyyyyyymen, BigBruthuhFriend! High five and off I sauntered to continue work.

Some articles of note I considered this week:

Google Caffeine and the new ranking factors

F-Secure's 2009 Data and Security Wrap-Up: http://bit.ly/5kaZKX And video: http://bit.ly/6PuqBj

Watching tech news emerge is sometimes like watching boxing.

On twitter I saw...

Yahoo! and Facebook Teaming Up http://bit.ly/4YzgZG

then, seconds later:

facebook+yahoo? ok says google, meet google+twitter http://bit.ly/50m05L

Pow! We really are really fortunate in the great people whom we hold close to us.
I'm thankful for the little unexpected joys and laughs that our daily life brings us (and that I all too often share on twitter)...
I'm thankful that I can sometimes somehow help to make someone else's world better, even if I will never meet them.
I'm thankful for the internet, how it allows me to hear about and be touched by far away people, discover neat voices in my own community I had never encountered, and stay in touch with old friends that moved geographically, yet with whom I can still settle down on the couch and have a good girl talk with via skype, looking each other eye to eye as we talk.

I hope you all have a good Thanksgiving. I hope you, and your community, made it through alright. Through technology, I was able to be closer to my friends who have a boatyard on the bay, and check on my family's house as the storm progressed, then ebbed.

My friends Matt and Jen uploaded *crazy* videos of the storm on YouTube and FaceBook

I breathlessly watched multiple views from the docks at a local marina's web cam, which refreshed every 30 seconds

Later, a neighbor emailed pictures of the house and my aunt's house so that, even though the road was still flooded and we were unable to reach the house, we could see how we, and other family members and neighbors, fared. (Here's our dock under water, in the picture on the right...)

And I literally went, "Aaaaaaaa!" when Jen, the pirate bandit she is (that's why we're friends : ) ), sent me this: A video of our house after the storm. And the boat is ok. Even the canoe is still there.

Ok, on to tech / media news:

Not just Microsoft. Not just Google. T'ain't stopping there: Twitter and LinkedIn. Really! (Do we care? Kind of. But not passionately.)

Right when you got the hang o' twitter lingo and methods, the RT (retweet) evolves. Here's a good article to update you on what's going on: "Retweets Will Never Be The Same (Unless You Want Them To Be)"

I keep bringing up SideWiki... here's how to keep track of your own site SideWiki via rss.

Again, although I "get" the arguments FOR SideWiki, it just doesn't feel right. I have not seen one use of it in a traditional, wiki, helpful way.

I understand that people talk. And that they talk about your business, and that you need to be out there, engaging them, ensuring you are part of the conversation about your own brand. But shouldn't you have the right to shut the door in your house, on your own site, at the end of the day, to detractors? (Note: SideWiki is through the browser, not actually on the site, but visually it is the same effect.)

I "get it," I really do. But I can't help but wonder what Miss Manners would say.

As Amy agreed, "'If you can't say something nice, at least try not to flame the pants off of them?'"

You know the sayin' about eggs in one basket, right? Well, in the internet world, you always need to look to new markets, new venues, for ways to spread, cull information.

Here is why Bing and The Wall Street Journal Could Hurt Google.

Check out Spezify. For someone like myself who uses image search often, it is a site to note. Not just for the results, for seo of your own product.

A useful search engine API launches today:
Factery Labs Makes Other Search Engines Look Incomplete

And that's our notes from a busy week, thanks for listening!
P.s. If sustainability and urban chickens interests you, I was quoted in the Richmond Times Dispatch this week on the subject! If you want to troll public lists by subject, etc. (and add your own) you can check out Listorious.

You've heard me talk about Sidewiki. Here's how to claim your site.

And twitter lists are now for everyone, and here's what you and your business need to know.

And Google's big news? AND leaving LOTSA links to my own site.

*Note: SideWiki is not technically "on" a site but within the browser.

With that "one-two" Google punch I deal thieving websites, these September statistics from iCrossing make me feel like like it might have quite an affect on their seo... in that, if AdWords / Google penalizes them for taking other's content once it's reported, it *will* hurt them. Remove the revenue and ranking rewards, remove the motivation for sites to steal voices.

Yes, I "get" the arguments in favor of aggregation, "all data is public"...
but I'm not emotionally convinced.

Several sites post my content *with my permission,* which I happily grant because they are 1. publications I respect who 2. asked my permission and that are 3.industry respected and 4.link the synopsis of my content to my sites, where readers can access the full content.

Yes I share my stories on the 'net... but still, my writing remains such a personal piece of me, so 'private' even though it's public... Each time I discover a new theft of content, it's like... it's like...
they take another little piece o' mah heart now, baby...

Great article in Business Week: Rise of the 'Homepreneur', which starts out with a bang:

"More than half of all U.S. businesses are based at home. These companies often are dismissed as quaint hobbyist ventures, but new research suggests that's a mistake. An estimated 6.6 million home-based enterprises provide at least half of their owners' household income. Together these "homepreneurs" employ one in 10 private-sector workers, and by many measures they're just as competitive as their counterparts in commercial spaces."

Not only are home-based businesses just as competitive, their employees are often happier than their cubicle-bound counterparts, therefore remaining with the successful business. This garners not only financial revenue (also benefiting the surrounding commmunity, providing jobs and revenue) but don't underestimate the cultural and environmental benefits such business models offer: no commuting, greater satisfaction of lifestyle, healthier eating and exercise, workplace composting, less waste...

Speaking of environmentally friendly, I hear some companies even have traditions like Vintage Hat Friday, where they showcase reuse and recycling, and celebrate repurposed clothes (and hats) in the work place! ; ) Our workplace was recently featured in V Magazine for many of the reasons above.

We hope you all have a safe Halloween. If you're still scared of social, here's a good article overview that explains some top venues and why cold technology needs to always keep community in mind.

Thanks for listening!
...If you note any trends or local media items of note, feel free to send 'em on!

I'm Copeland Casati, of Copeland Casati Media,
the original C3 in Richmond creative arts and media since 1999.

You can reach me at copeland@copelandcasati.com, or on twitter, @copelandcasati. Real time search, and the democratization of data, stepped forward, again this week:
At lunchtime Wednesday, Danny Sullivan wrote:

"Bing To Do Deal With Twitter, Launch Its Own Twitter Search

AllThingsD has reported that Microsoft will announce a deal with Twitter today to gather its real time data. We’re able to confirm that from a source as well and provide some additional details.
The deal will make Bing the first major search engine to have access to Twitter’s “Firehose” of tweets. It’s not exclusive, however. Google potentially could still do a deal, too."

Read it all about why this is important here! >>

And not to disappoint, right at 3 pm came the tweet from twitter's CEO...

I discovered via the web a young girl giving a compelling speech to world leaders about a precious resource: water.
Watch it here >>

And the night before, I watched some Richmond, Virginia heroes, doing their part like this young girl before you, to make our community, hence larger world, a better place.

Thanks to The Valentine Richmond History Center and its sponsors, whom each year spotlight community activists, all "Average People" who discovered a need in our local community, worked on how to address it, and strode forward to make our community better, often with few resources.

Read all about these local leaders here:

2009 Richmond History Makers

LaVerne Spurlock | James Schroeder, D.D.S. | Central Virginia Waste Management Authority
ROSMY | Mary Lou Decossaux

And for all of you using social media to sell, sell, sell: Stop, think. Sure you can search on terms that apply to your own business and reach out and engage them. But read the context.

I had just found out our child has a not just severe, but a life threatening allergy, told to carry multiple epi-pens at all times. Crushed, devastated, my-world-ending, I mentioned it on twitter.

Within seconds I received this:

I promise you that the last thing I want to do right now is hear a chirpy voice telling me to "check out" some "adorable" clothes for allergy-ridden children.

If you think EMAIL is easy to misinterpret or not convey subtleties of feeling (I'm sure this person meant well), think about how easy it is to come off wrong in 140 characters.

Back to Wave: We did a lot more testing on Wave this week, and the conference call application means that you don't need a phone with that functionality any more to pull people onto one line. I am excited to see what other applications are developed by others this year.

My fave, though, is 6Round's Video app- http://www.6rounds.com/?icode=6wave
(Except now I'm gonna have to make sure to brush my hair more often...)

To see more Google Wave apps, visit here: http://wave-samples-gallery.appspot.com

And finally, stop comparing yourself to others, focus on your own mission, your business identity and voice... it's more about how you interact with your peers, and to not hold rulers like page rank as a constant measure. Shouldn't ya have gotten over that in high school?

Ah, but right when you think you can totally dismiss the popular crowd, TechCrunch explains why it, and twitter, are still important, and that all twitter data (not just the popular crowd) will be key in future ranking results. Here's the difference: page rank is based on web sites; twitter data is interactions, often ranked in popularity, yes, but how is that twitter popularity garnered? By reaching out, connecting. So don't sit in the corner by yourself; reach out.

Don't feel like you have to try to be a cheerleader or jock, join the "typical popular crowd" - the beauty of twitter / social is that there is a community for all of us, interested in your interests. So I'll see ya in the cafeteria - I'll be at a table huddling with a good book, and you're welcome to sit with me!

Still skeptical as to why your business should be focused on social? Check out these stats.

All the drama over the new American Girl Doll seems just a tad... well...

Overblown.

They are releasing an expensive doll. They ALWAYS release an expensive doll. The doll, "Gwen", has a complex back story which creates fodder for a series of books and potential movies and made-for-TV specials. Imagine that.

People seem to be upset because charging $95 dollars for a doll that is 'homeless' is a mockery. There is a popular notion that at the very least a portion of that money should go to charities that benefit the homeless. That would be nice, but unless it's a standard of behavior that Mattel has already begun, (donating Addy's proceeds to Civil War History Museums, or Kaya's proceeds to Native American causes) it would seem unfair to start now with Gwen.

I had an American Girl Doll. My two best friends did as well, and we read their books and played with them daily. As far as toys go they are very expensive, and while my family was not wealthy, we were fortunate to be able to afford extravagances like that at Christmas and birthdays. For better or worse I was sheltered from many of life's more unpleasant facts until I was much older by my parents' vigilance.

I suspect that it is the same for many of the children playing with American Girl Dolls today. If a parent wants to introduce their child to homelessness through a doll and accompanying literature, I don't have a problem with that.

If you don't like the product, you don't buy it. That is your feedback outlet as a consumer.

If you didn't plan to buy it anyway and are thus lacking an outlet; imagine for a moment that rather than being upset, every person who had complained about this donated $5 to a charity benefiting the homeless.

I suspect the latter would do a significant amount of good. I thought of the trend towards aggregation of content, of local Richmond aggregators such as RichmondBizSense.com, RVABlogs.com, RichmondGoodLife.com... and wonder about FTC liability.

I spoke briefly with NBC 12 regarding this subject, but would like to also add some excerpts from my twitter feed for more thought:

@dbrowell I suspect it will be up to the blogger to prove their innocence, and that is what I've never liked @ govn't entities..

Let's also bring in the RT - if you rt, that implies endorsement. How does RT affect product FTC liability? #nbc12

[And how that heck are ya supposed to disclose within 140?!?] #nbc12

#nbc12 And b/c of aggregation- if your blog is posted elsewhere and you didn't disclose in that particular area pulled in, are you liable?

#nbc12 1st they start with the @dooce's and big bloggers, but think: has any govn't agency ended in 30yrs? Can't wait to see what spam & pornbots will do with this...

I also thought about health care and twitter this week when I ran across this:

I'm still not seeing health care professionals on social media locally as other industry counterparts (like lawyers in 2008, for example, although a recent article states only 6% of lawyers are on twitter, yet look at the advantages!). I thought of the benefits Richmond doctors could similarly use this way to engage their community, branding themselves locally, when I spied this feed, pictured above, quoted below, earlier this week:

Metrics: After Twitter event, 20 people requested info/consults; 16 were surgery candidates; 14 surgeries performed. That's ROI!

Interesting: a couple of Aurora's nurses are heavily involved in Twitter

The Numbers: Before the surgery, Aurora had 900 Twitter followers. Immediately after, they had 2K. Now, they have over 5,300 #smhc

Aurora Health did a live broadcast of a double-knee replacement on Twitter. I know I'm forgetting... oh, yes:
Canada!
*Phew.*

I, for one, am looking forward to camping; not in our prefab house kit, but like we did, before: In the '60s aluminum teardrop camper, this time exploring Virginia state parks.

Like an earlier post on Personal Brands, we revisit some similar topics this week as the subject continues...

Here's our weekly Richmond roundup:

Facebook added @mentions... Watch out, twitter! As Facebook continues to implement new functionality, it would behoove businesses to keep an active presence there.

Richmond was discussing manners.
I have my own thoughts and recent experience on that subject, for a later post in more detail. I *do* expect people can debate, even heatedly, without being impolite. And I do see emails, twitter, and other new media on the same level as if they were written on traditional company letterhead. Even in conversation, decorum is expected. If you, or your employees, use impolite words, it sticks... it gets around, it reflects on your brand.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Going back to industries that "get it" re: decorum in public and private- Local hat tips to @constructionlaw @valaborlaw, @gatewood5000, and @valw, legal voices providing good content. I don't know why, maybe it's because I have a lot of friends in law, but I particularly enjoy following voices in this field.
(Believe me, doctors and many other industries currently in new media are not nearly as compelling! ...Yet. )

If we are losing our manners as they say, is there also a reciprocal swell of kindness on twitter / Facebook?

[ Or is it that people discovered and embraced the No-Follow and those in "our crowd" just seek happier voices? I don't mind the multitude of event requests on Facebook, in fact, I like to see 'em on my calendar and pretend that *maybe* I just *might* get a sitter!

And really, so much of it is SO easy to do- in this case, just drop off some cans to kind retailers helping the Food Bank!

Speaking of events, and good gatherings locally:
Tonight we have Green Drinks at Savor! Looking forward to slowing down a little, neck craned up, leaning back in a chair quietly in the dark watching the stars and satellites traverse the sky.

Thanks for listening!
...If you note any trends or local media items of note, feel free to send 'em on!

I'm Copeland Casati, of Copeland Casati Media, the original C3 in RVA media since 1999.

You can reach me at copeland@copelandcasati.com, or on twitter, @copelandcasati. Sheesh.)

It's one of *those* weeks where I feel like I only have time to talk in bullet points... so I will, and share some articles I found compelling:

We've suffered the rise of Personal Brands for some time, and many now understand the struggle between personal brands vs. The Message, why it's important to not allow yourself to be consumed by your personal ego and remember your content, and message, you would like to get out.

With the rise of The People as Op/Ed and News Source (vs. traditional news outlets), the realization that "Heeyyy, I've got lotsa followers!" can overshadow the value of The People's Voice: undiscovered, immediate, valuable content.

That's not to discount the Citizen Voice and its value- as even MC Hammer recognized this week,

"Citizen journalism is more a reality today then ever before"
- @MCHammer

But remember:
"“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I *do* that defines me.” – Batman (2005)"

In the deluge of messy, pompous, valueless personal brands, we call on a true hero: BATMAN.

Awaken your inner superhero and learn how Batman will help you beat social media narcissism.

What's especially interesting to me is watching traditional news voices drink the Personal Brand Kool-Aid.

Who Avoids The Kool-Aid? Here are some industries I've seen avoid the hype:

In my view, most TV newspeople (not just newscasters, the whole crew- in fact, the cameramen tend to be my favorite! Check out @newmediajim and our local @nbc12photog!) have handled the incorporation of social media especially well because they already had their personal brand moment when they first got on tv: "Look ma, I'm on tv!" then quickly realized, "Ugh, my job consists of schlepping around constantly, all over the country, I'm over this, let's focus on the actual story in front of us."

Green building lawyers, and actually, legal voices in general: Although their reputation was enhanced geographically through tools such as twitter, they maintain good content. The ones I listen to (@StephenDP, @Shari Shapiro, @Chris Hill, @Chris Cheatham to name a few in green building, and @valaborlaw for employment issues) stay on target and never forget their real draw is their knowledge and discussion of green building.

What about you? What industries or people have you noticed avoid the hype and found valuable?

The Amish and the internet. I was feeling very Amish one day this week regarding social media. That is not to mean I avoided it, but that, like the Amish, one evaluates the voices and information thrown about and determines, "Is this good for me? My community?" If it's not, get rid of it: Unfollow.

I searched for a great article I read awhile ago that explained these choices Amish make regarding technology well, but can't find it...

Before you think I'm-A-Gonna Shun, here is a great post that mirrors much of my thinking:
In Defense of Social Media: http://veryofficialblog.com/2009/08/30/in-defense-of-social-media

And my unending enthusiasm for the power of social media for social good:
Because one person CAN make a difference!

P.s. They were right down the street from our home at the time in Richmond's North Side, and, as I had no water cooler or company break room, I would go often at lunchtime to take a break and spend my lunch running the dogs there.

Many hours per week were spent in my "kennel clothes" (I kept them separate from the rest of my laundry - if you spend a lot of time in shelters you know what that smells like...) lifting big dogs I didn't know (yet) by myself down from the second tier of kennels, both of us struggling down from the combined weight to the concrete floor where they then stood impatiently ready to run (and did they run) with abandon outdoors in the field. (Or as much racing as you can do on a leash with a human attached...)

Back then, it was a decrepit-but-well-run shelter on Chamberlayne Avenue, before the SPCA moved later to it's new, nationally recognized facilities and became an admired model of achievement for shelters everywhere.

Today I watched the news that "SPCA EXEC KILLS DOG" blow up across the nation with a biased eye.
I wholeheartedly support the organization (they've saved over 20,000 animal lives since 2002, you?), I was a volunteer there, and knowing the staff and success of the organization, I support the Starr family; I knew the dog, Louie, that died.

I can not help but wonder...
Why was there such little mention of the SPCA's explanation in local new media?
One organization "just retweeted people's reactions" on twitter, turned around to defend its actions, yet never included the link in their twitter feed, just (as of last time I checked) spewed reactions from people who pretty much only knew, "SPCA CEO KILLS DOG IN HOT CAR."

(Later, much later, they said they included the SPCA statement on their website. But that's another channel, as outdated as the term is; It's another feed, and one which I did not visit that day. I WATCHED TWITTER. I want to know where their journalism was on TWITTER.)

Glancing at that voice today reminded me why I don't listen to that feed, as much as I like the product.
(Lesson for organizations: Encourage multiple staff to have voices, it's a good thing.)
So this week locally in Richmond media, we revisit journalism vs. "conversation", especially when the supposed journalists are "just re-tweeting" without including links they know present the voice of the organization debated.

It will be interesting to watch the pr, media, journalism, and legal debate that will certainly follow over the next week.

Just remember: She did not know a dog was in her car when she drove to work that morning. It was put there, elderly, docile, used to riding in cars, by a family member. How many times have you been doing yard work in your back yard, taken the wheelbarrow full of brush to the curb, only to have your spouse ask you something from the front door? Do you go inside, forgetting the unlatched gate? Did the pets get out? Did they get hit? Were you prosecuted? Did your spouse, not knowing you left the gate open, lose their job?

And to the "journalists" that happily fanned the flames?:
What is your new media responsibility as journalists?
We may all be in a conversation, you may have the "right" to throw out misleading information, but be aware you may be culpable.

Twestival Covered In Richmond Grid Magazine!

I was thrilled when Richmond Grid asked me a few questions about the upcoming Richmond Twestival on September 11th, a wonderful entity (learn Twestival's history here), this time benefiting our local Tricycle Gardens!

Read the Richmond Twestival article here...

Check out Twestival's

Fabulous Auction Items

Sponsors!!!!!

And Don't Forget To Buy Your Tickets! : )

See you soon at Richmond's TWESTIVAL!

Richmond Media Roundup: Week of Aug. 20th

It's been a very busy week here, so we'll be fast... On the world tech front:

Twitter goin' down, AGAIN... And we raised money, oh yes, we did:

"About the Twestival.
On 12 February 2009, 200+ international cities hosted a Twestival (Twitter + festival) to bring Twitter communities together to raise money for charity: water. The Twestival raised $250,000+ and brought worldwide public awareness to the global water crisis. "
Come see what we did!!!!! Watch the first wells being dug!!!!

Now Richmond is pulling together again for Twestival, this time to benefit a local non-profit, Tricycle Gardens, who builds community gardens in urban areas to connect children and the neighborhood with nature and food production again.
Please pass this link on for the Richmond Twestival and let people know we are still looking for sponsors- 100% of the sponsor and ticket money goes to Tricycle Gardens!!!!

We envision that the money raised from Richmond’s Twestival will allow Tricycle Gardens to not only build more community gardens, but to also help other non-profits. With the theory of Plant A Row, children can not only connect to gardens and nature, benefit from the bounty, but also learn about giving to others, such as designating that one row in their plot grow food for our local Food Bank and other similar organizations.

Currently, we are seeking 1. SPONSORS and 2.
